I got a call on a Friday. "Hey, I got your name from someone. I'm in a bit of a bind. I have a project due, and I need a voice-over done by Monday".
This is the kind of thing you can do now because of technology! See, back in the dark ages (only 15 or 20 years ago!), I would have had to rent time in a studio, hire an engineer, pay weekend rates and then overnight a tape or CD or some other physical media to this person.
But now, I have my own studio. I record files that can be uploaded via an FTP or on another service.
So obviously, I said yes. We negotiated a rate based on usage, and I recorded the script that weekend once it was ready.
The client was quite happy with it too!
Here's the video. My brother-in-law is a fire chief, so not only is this a cool project for me, it's potentially a product that will help him stay safer in his job!
